Don Quixote y Sancho Panza Embroidered Pillow

My very first time embroidering! This was my submission for the fiber arts Delftwood Artisan Challege this past august at Tournament of the Windmill in the Barony of Delftwood. I placed 3rd out of 10! Not too bad for my first competition...

As a Spanish SCAdian, I decided to do a scene from The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, published in 1605 by Miguel Cervantes. (I'm hoping to read the whole thing in old Spanish someday!) I learned a bunch of different stitches, and my favorite was the feather stitch used for the field (it's uneven on purpose, btw). Hand-sewing is very difficult for me with my Fibromyalgia; it causes my hands a lot of pain. It was nice to do something different, but I don't think I'll be doing it again anytime soon.
